The newly built Port Zante, a deep water port
capable of handling the world's largest cruise ship, the Queen Mary 2. St Kitts
hailed this as a huge economic milestone, as they are only the second port of
call in the Caribbean with this ability (Barbados is the first). For us, however,
when a grand total of FIVE cruise ships belched forth their fat, clueless tourists
on one of the days we were there (apparently off-loading 7,900 people to go duty
free shopping for the day so that they could say they had stepped on foreign
soil.. blech), the fact that it was helping the local economy was of little consolation.
Seriously, someone shoot me if I ever become one of those "cruise people". Yuck.
